  • Targeting to specific areas within a country is beneficial when the company is a business that pertains to a local neighborhood, a company that has special offers pertaining to specific locations, or a business the only sells their goods or services in selected locations
  • This is not the best method for businesses that are trying to maximize their reach in a specific country, only excluding a few regions. In this case, it is better to select a whole country as a target location then exclude the undesired regions.

  • Radius targeting is beneficial to businesses that offer delivery service within a selected radius, or businesses whose only customers are within a radius of the physical location of the business

Targeting to entire countries

  1. Sign into your AdWords account at https://adwords.google.com
  2. Click on “Campaigns”
  3. Click on the campaign you would like to edit
  4. Click on “Settings”
  5. Click on “Edit” within the “Locations” section
  6. Type in the name of the country where you would like to target your ad
  7. Click on “Add”
  8. Click on “Save”

 

Targeting areas within a country

  1. Sign into your AdWords account at https://adwords.google.com
  2. Click on “Campaigns”
  3. Click on the campaign you would like to edit
  4. Click on “Settings”
  5. Click on “Edit” within the “Locations” section
  6. Type in the zip code or name of the city or state where you would like to target your ad. Include the country name when specifying a city or state.
  7. Click on “Add”
  8. Click on “Save”

 

Targeting a radius around a location

  1. Sign into your AdWords account at https://adwords.google.com
  2. Click on “Campaigns”
  3. Click on the campaign you would like to edit
  4. Click on “Settings”
  5. Click on “Edit” within the “Locations” section and then click on “Advanced Search”
  6. Click on “Radius Targeting”
  7. In the search box, type in the address of the location you would like to center the radius around. Then type in the radius around the address you would like to target and select the unit of measurement from the drop-down menu
  8. Click on “Search” to locate the radius on the given map
  9. Double check the given map to make sure you’re targeting your desired area for your ad
  10. Click on “Add” or “Add All” if multiple locations are selected
  11. Click on “Done”
  12. Click on “Save”
